"Grandmother's Wedding Ring: Contemporary Circles" by Judy Martin

"Grandmother's Wedding Ring: Contemporary Circles" (87.875 by 98.25 inches, 1999) was designed and pieced by Judy Martin and quilted by Jean Nolte. This is just one of five versions of Judy's original Wedding Ring pattern that you'll find in The Creative Pattern Book (Crosley-Griffith Publishing Company, Inc., 2000). Inspired by the classic Double Wedding Ring, Grandmother's Wedding Ring uses hexagonal rings and diamond-shaped intersections to eliminate the traditional curves. Judy chose a gradated, slightly speckled background fabric to evoke a scrappy look and still allow the quilting to show up. The batting is 100-percent organic cotton with scrim from Hobbs Bonded Fibers. Photo by Brian Birlauf.
