| Joen used curved strips to create a parabolic effect in "Let Freedom Glow" (1985), a birthday tribute to the Statue of Liberty. She used varying degrees of toned fabrics to add luminosity around the flame. Quilting lines add movement in the water, contours on the land, and airflow patterns in the sky. The quilt is pictured in Landscapes & Illusions: Creating Scenic Imagery with Fabric. Photo by Ken Wagner. | |||
